China has administered over 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses

China has administered over 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses

China’s vaccine rollout has become unrivalled as it reaches well over the 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine dose mark. China’s National Health Commission (NHC) stated that a total of 1,010,489,000 doses have been administered as of Saturday, with the doses being 40% of the 2.5 billion shots administered globally.

Around 100 million doses were given in the five days leading up to and including Saturday. China managed to rack up the amount despite starting the rollout shakily. It reached the first million milestone on March 27th, two weeks behind the USA. Beijing has successfully contained the outbreak but several local outbreaks have fuelled fear of infection, thus leading to a vaccination rush. People under the age of 18 have also started receiving their vaccines, being eligible to receive Sinopharm and Sinovac.

Peppi Azzopardi shines light on people selling vouchers for survival

Peppi Azzopardi shines light on people selling vouchers for survival
Jun 21 2021 Share

Xarabank host Peppi Azzopardi took to Facebook to highlight how some people who are financially struggling are having to sell their COVID-19 vouchers to make ends meet. Azzopardi points out how many families who cannot catch up with day-to-day requirements, have pending taxes and live in poverty. He however also condemned those who are buying the vouchers at half the price they actually cost.

Azzopardi points out that this is an abusive act which profits off of desperate people in poverty who will do anything to make ends meet. Calling it stealing, he urges people to think of people who are selling their vouchers because they cannot afford to use them to go on weekend breaks or on an expensive dining experience with family.

No indication when upcoming heat wave will end

No indication when upcoming heat wave will end
Jun 21 2021 Share

Malta Islands Weather have stated that there is, as of yet, no clear indication as to when the heat wave Malta is experiencing will pass. The temperature is set to increase well over 35 degrees Celsius, with reportedly no rest from the heat during night time either. Malta’s nights will reach over 25 degrees Celsius.

A heatwave is defined as a ’spell of three or more consecutive days with daytime highs exceeding the mean maximum temperature for that particular time of year by 5°C or more.’ This particular heat wave will increase it over 10°C.

The UV index will be at around 11+, meaning an increased risk of harm from exposure to sunlight. Maltese Islands Weather encourage people to take necessary precautions, with UV being highest in the early afternoon.
