0 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 11 recoveries

Malta has registered 0 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 1,978 swab tests, while 11 patients have recovered. One death was registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Wednesday 16th June 2021, 609,867 vaccine doses were administered of which 346,576 were 1st doses. 274,321 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 30,585 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,132 have recovered, 420 died and 33 are still active.

PN youth leader argues for better environment; donates olive trees to Attard garden

MZPN President, lawyer and PN candidate Joseph Grech took to Facebook on Wednesday to argue in favour of a better environment in the face of mass uprooting of trees in Attard.

It was for that reason that Grech donated two olive trees to an Attard garden, going on to thank Attard mayor Stefan Cordina for accepting his contribution on promising maintenance and upkeep of the trees.

Many citizens around Malta and Gozo have recently expressed their concern with the country’s ever-decreasing amount of greenery, especially in comparison to other countries. Just recently a publication named ‘Forestry in the EU and the world issued by Eurostat put Malta in last place when it comes to forested land with 1% of area covered by forests.

581 families to get a roof over their heads thanks to social housing scheme

Minister for Social Accommodation Roderick Galdes has announced that by the end of 2021, 581 families will be provided a roof over their heads thanks to social housing scheme ‘Nikru Biex Nassistu’.

These scheme will make us of empty homes for social housing, with 330 families already being provided social housing with this amount expected to rise to 773 families by 2022 and 884 families by 2023.

Minister Galdes explained that this social policy is being implemented to make use of empty homes and create value while contributing to the community.

WATCH: No new COVID-19 cases today as active case number drops to 33

During a health conference earlier today addressed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne and Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat, Fearne revealed that no new COVID-19 cases have been registered over the past 24 hours.

During the conference, the Minister also revealed that the active cases number will drop to 33 today, going on to highlight the opening of a new health centre in Marsaxlokk to bring health services closer to the people of Malta.

It was also revealed that for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, no COVID-19 patients are currently in hospital as Malta moves closer to normality than ever before.
